1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 

Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Set in the 1940's, the film shows how Andy, with the help of his friend Red, the prison entrepreneur, turns out to be a most unconventional prisoner.

A supernatural tale set on death row in a Southern prison, where gentle giant John Coffey possesses the mysterious power to heal people's ailments. When the cellblock's head guard, Paul Edgecomb, recognizes Coffey's miraculous gift, he tries desperately to help stave off the condemned man's execution.

7. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

McMurphy has a criminal past and has once again gotten himself into trouble with the law. To escape labor duties in prison, McMurphy pleads insanity and is sent to a ward for the mentally unstable. Once here, McMurphy both endures and stands witness to the abuse and degradation of the oppressive Nurse Ratched.



 8. Escape from Alcatraz (1979) 

Frank Morris (Clint Eastwood) arrives at Alcatraz in 1960 after having successfully broken out of several other prisons. He seems to inspire respect or hate just by his presence. A brutish prisoner (Bruce Fischer) ties to kill him when he dosen't respond to his sexual advances; the meticulously chilly warden (Patrick McGoohan) knowing his background throws out a challenge



9. V for Vendetta (2005) 

In a world in which Great Britain has become a fascist state, a masked vigilante known only as "V" conducts guerrilla warfare against the oppressive British government. When "V" rescues a young woman from the secret police, he finds in her an ally with whom he can continue his fight to free the people of Britain.



10. The Longest Yard (2005) 

Pro quarter-back Paul Crewe and former college champion and coach Nate Scarboro are doing in the same prison. Asked to put together a team of inmates to take on the guards, Crewe enlists the help of Scarboro to coach the inmates to victory in a football game 'fixed' to turn out quiet another way.
